Abstract

Reciprocating compressor is a type of air compressor which is a tool that plays an important role in the industrial world, especially in pneumatic systems has an induction motor as the driving system. Induction motors have many advantages from a technical and economic point of view. However, induction motors also have drawbacks, including a large starting current that can draw 5 to 7 times the full load current. In an induction motor, a starting method is needed, which aims to reduce the large starting current. The starting method used in this study is the soft starter starting method with a soft starter inside delta circuit. From the results of the research, the starting current
value of a 3-phase induction motor is 160kW with the soft starter starting method in a period of 10 seconds of 1054.77A (1s), with a starting class of 350% I¬n Motor of a
nominal current of 301.36 A (10s). . The soft starter which is assembled in an inside delta circuit, the large incoming current will decrease to (1/√3) of the nominal current, which is ± 58% of the nominal current of 301.36 A to 173.99 A. The power which was originally 159.807 kW becomes 92.38 kW, the power efficiency produced by the soft starter is 94.67% and the power efficiency generated at the by pass contactor delta is 94.84% when the maximum torque condition is 150% towards 100% full load
